ABOUT

Over two decades of experience helping individuals live happier and healthier lives.

Today's society creates serious mental health problems due to pervasive social media comparisons, economic pressures, job insecurity, and rising living costs. The blurring of work-life boundaries, social isolation, and high societal expectations increase stress. Political and environmental uncertainties, inadequate mental health care, and unhealthy lifestyles further exacerbate depression and anxiety rates. It is not surprising that people find themselves overwhelmed, have difficulty coping, and seek professional help. At such times, counselling can be invaluable, providing an opportunity to talk to a trained professional who is both empathetic and unbiased. This is where people like myself can be of assistance.

I graduated from UBC in 1999 with a master’s degree in counselling psychology and started my practice as a family counsellor immediately. In the early years, my clientele consisted of individuals, couples, children, families, and groups. Now, since working virtually, I no longer run groups or work with children, as the latter require in-person counselling. Prior to that, I was a stay-at-home mother for 10 years, looking after my four rambunctious children, all of whom are now fully grown!

My undergraduate degree was completed in Scotland, and I taught Chemistry, Physics, and Biology in England, Wales, and Canada before embarking on motherhood and eventually becoming a counsellor. I am registered with the B.C. Association of Clinical Counsellors, and although I work with a variety of problems, the bulk of my work centers around anxiety, depression, and relationship issues. Whenever possible, targeted therapy is used, and clients' goals are clearly defined in the initial interview. A time frame is set, and self-help exercises are incorporated so that individuals can continue working on their own outside therapy.
